Southbridge, the owner and operator of several long-term care homes and retirement communities in Southwestern Ontario, is currently seeking a Recreational Programs Manager to join their nursing home in Plantagenet, ON.

Reporting to the Executive Director at RĂ©sidence Pinecrest Nursing Home, the Recreational Programs Manager is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing and supervising the departments' programs and staff.

What is expected of you:
  • Plan, organize, direct and supervise the recreational, pastoral care, social work and music therapy.
  • Implement and evaluate program relating to the standard domains (physical, intellectual, emotional, capabilities, environment, social)
  • Coordinate therapeutic program development and delivery in collaboration with those of other departments.
  • Asses departmental needs and draft an action plan.
  • Recruit/ coach, mentor and supervise departmental/programs staff which include music therapists and volunteers.
  • Develop departmental goals and objects.
  • Actively participate in program delivery.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor programming budget.
  • Create and update Resident Health Care Record as they pertain to the department (MDS experience an asset).
  • Coordinate the completion of MDS assessments on all residents within established timelines.
  • Act as Education Lead for the Home.
  • Actively participate in the home's Inter Disciplinary Team Conference, Professional advisory care conference, and Quality Improvement meetings.

What you bring to the table:
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university required.
  • Knowledge of the concepts of Palliative care, Holistic care, Activation and Dementia care.
  • Minimum one-year supervisory experience.
  • Experience in planning, developing and evaluating effectiveness of individual and group programming for frail, elderly residents using an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and have a command of the English and French language.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of community resources, program development, MOHLTC standards, and ministry of long-term care standards.
  • Previous supervisory experience in long term care an asset.
  • At least one year of experience with seniors in an organized program or one year of experience with persons in a health care setting required.
  • Experience or knowledge in recruitment, selection, orientation, placement and supervision of volunteers required.
  • Sufficient knowledge and experience to coordinate religious services and spiritual care in a multi-faith setting required.
  • Flexible and willing to work on call when needed.
