Housekeeping/Transport Aide Housekeeping PHC (Job ID: 8493)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Transport/Housekeeping Aide is involved in direct and indirect patient and resident care by transporting patients and residents, as well as equipment, supplies and furniture. All duties are performed in accordance with the Mission and Values of Providence Healthcare.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the transfer and transport of patients and residents to appointments for clinics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, x-ray, and beauty salon;
- Report relevant information promptly to the unit and member of the healthcare team requesting transport service;
- Adhere to established principles of safe lifting and transportation of residents and patients related to a specific transport device;
- Seek appropriate assistance when transferring and transporting patients and residents;
- Check supplies of oxygen and replacing tanks as required in preparation for afternoon and night shift requirements;
- Transport pharmaceuticals to appropriate unit or department;
- Transport specimens to lab, equipment/supplies to and from C.S.R. as requested by units;
- Inform the supervisor of any delays or changes in schedule;
- Removing soiled bedside curtains for cleaning and replacement;
- Setting up chairs, tables etc. for various functions;
- Removing furniture from various locations for storage, repair, and disposal;
- Transporting belongings of residents/patients to resident's storeroom, or from storeroom to patient's room;
- Complete other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Grade 12 preferred;
- The position requires a basic knowledge of patient and resident care;
- Must be physical fit and lift up to 40 lbs;
- A knowledge of and adherence to safety as related to transport devices and procedures is mandatory;
- The incumbent is required to function systematically within the extent of a prescribed schedule, relating well to patients, residents, volunteers and supervisors. On the job orientation and skill development training are provided;
- Assisting with removal and replacement of window drapes;
- Replacing mattresses and disposing of them with supervisor's approval;
- Informing immediate supervisor of any delays and when work is completed;
- Reporting faulty casters on equipment, furniture, etc. or any unusual findings to immediate supervisor;
- Keeping workroom in a clean and orderly fashion;
- Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Providence Healthcare's Health and Safety Policies;
- Adhere to Providence Healthcare's Policies and Procedures, including Incident Reporting Policy;
- Very good attendance record;
- Good performance record.
Length of Temporary Contract: 6 months
