Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven leader to head our Stewarding Department. This role goes beyond maintaining cleanliness, it requires a visionary who can drive change, set high standards, and hold teams accountable. As a key partner to the Executive Chef, you will spearhead innovation, implement new service standards, and elevate operational excellence. Strong communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills are essential to inspire and develop a high-performing team. Coordination and Maintenance:

  • Ensures kitchen and equipment are properly maintained and in accordance with health and safety guidelines
  • Ensures proper equipment availability for events
  • Maintains proper equipment inventory levels and reports any discrepancies to the Executive Chef
  • Provides proper equipment and information to various service departments. Contacts kitchen to coordinate set-up and delivery of food and equipment. Consults with external clients for chemicals and recycling.
  • Performs a daily walk-about of all company service areas
  • Conducts Annual/semi-annual inventory of china, cutlery and glass wares

Employee Relations:

  • Fosters a culture of accountability, motivation, and professional growth by mentoring and empowering team members at all levels, ensuring they feel valued and equipped for success.
  • Builds strong cross-departmental relationships, collaborating with Banquets, Culinary and F&B teams to drive operational excellence while maintaining a positive and engaged workforce.
  • Provides leadership support by training staff, supervising assistant managers, supervisors and setting departmental goals. Poor judgment in this position could potentially lead to penalties from the Health Department resulting in financial loss.
  • Supervise all Stewarding staff including assistance with hiring, training, conducting performance evaluations & discipline as necessary
  • Delegates responsibilities to Assistant Executive Steward, Assistant Managers and Supervisors
  • Schedules Assistant Managers when required by an event or function
  • Conducts regular departmental meetings with assistant managers and supervisors

Finances:

  • Develops and maintains departmental budget and corporate goals
  • Monitoring of labour costs daily

Job Skills and Requirements

  • 5-7 years demonstrated managerial experience in the Stewarding/Kitchen areas within the Hospitality Industry, involving large public events/conventions.
  • Previous experience in a Unionized environment required.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory capacity required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge and experience with health and sanitation safety regulations.
  • Payroll and scheduling/Time and Attendance System experience would be an asset (Workforce and UKG considered an asset).
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills.
  • Some knowledge of computerized systems, word processing, MS Word, Excel, and EBMS (Event Business Management System)
  • The candidate will be detail oriented and possess the skills to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to Work facility events evenings and weekends as required.
