Job Description

The Dockhand is responsible for ensuring a safe environment within the dock areas and at the outside & street entrances to the facility. This includes marshalling trucks that are entering or leaving while in the process of setting up and clearing out for events.

Reporting to the Docks Supervisors, the successful candidate will support the move-ins/outs of conventions, trade & consumer shows and theatre productions.

General duties include:

  • Marshalling trucks & directing traffic; Monitor traffic flows of the docks area during move-in/outs. Giving directions to drivers using hand/arm signals as well as verbally.
  • Refueling; Removing fuel tanks from forklift, loading propane cylinder into golf cart, driving golf cart to and from the propane room. Replacing tanks as needed.
  • Elevator attendant; Attending and operating freight and passenger elevators
  • Blackout drapes; Installing, hanging and removing blackout drapes as required.
  • Inspections; Ensure that inspections of the loading facilities are completed as required
  • Equipment usage; Golf cart, zoom boom, forklift (if trained).

Job Skills and Requirements

  • Physical Demands:
    • Ability to perform repetitive lifting and carrying of heavy loads (up to 50lbs).
    • Ability to work in all weather conditions (summer and winter).
    • May require high reach equipment and propane training
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Valid driver’s licence required.
    • Must have own safety shoes.
    • Strong communication skills to interact with customers, and with various departments and contractors.
    • Experience in using computer systems and utilizing MS Office would be an asset
    • Flexibility and shift work, including days, evenings, and weekends.
