Purpose: Develops, promotes implements, supervises, supports, and evaluates programs
providing services to children aged 0 - 6 in accordance with CCEYA criteria, Children's
Services, and Ministry of Education standards, and the Club's mission in relation to stated
goals, objectives and allocated resources.


Major Responsibilities:
Program Services:

  • Assesses preschool needs for children's programming (aged 18mos to 4 yrs) and develops
    achievable goals and objectives for groups of or individual children.
  • Is knowledgeable in and able to apply policies and procedures from the Child Care Early Years Act
    (CCEYA), and the Quality Assessment tool for Child Care Services in all areas.
    Assists to ensure that program and staff abide by all policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the development, promotion, implementation and evaluation of preschool programs and services in relation to the assessed needs, defined goals, objectives and professional service standards.
  • Ensures the safety and security of Club members during programs.
  • Ensures that supplies, equipment and facility are available and are in a safe working condition.
  • Recommends new initiatives and or trends where appropriate.
  • Consults and works with colleagues, groups and other service providers.
  • Assists to train, supervise, direct, support, and evaluate preschool program, staff (assistants, part-time staff, volunteers, practicum students, relief staff and contract staff) in the performance of their duties.


General Responsibilities (including Mentoring and Administration):

  • Prepares implements and facilitates weekly program planning which is age appropriate and which enhances children's cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.
  • Maintains accurate attendance records and completes head counts intermittently.
  • Observes children's progress and behaviours (group and individual) evaluates and modifies
    program to meet their development, cultural, social/emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Maintains a clean, organized and safe environment.
  • Completes all necessary paperwork and all daily/monthly checks/cleaning (eg. attendance, food
    temperature checklist, bleach and dishwasher temperature checks, opening/closing routines,
    disinfection of toys/interest areas/laundry, accident report forms, administration of medication,
    fire drills, playground checklists, kitchen cleaning, etc.).
  • Ensures that Supervisor or designate is notified of any special circumstances (ill children) or
    potential risks (Serious Occurrences).
  • Assists all children in dressing, toileting/washing, diapering (as required), eating, etc. yet
    encouraging self help skills.
  • Ensures that children are adequately nourished and special dietary requirements/allergies are
    met.
  • Assists the Supervisor with ensuring adequate supplies and food/tools are provided for the centre
    and notifies Supervisor of necessary food and required supplies from caterer and food supplier.
  • Maintains easy transitions when moving children from swimming and/or all other extra curricular
    activities and participates with children during these activities.
  • Attends all monthly staff meetings, and parent meetings
  • Assists Supervisor with their duties/in their role and acts as the Designated Supervisor (taking on
    role) when Supervisor is not available.
  • Assists Supervisor with assigned ongoing tasks, such as; attendance reporting (Children's
    Services), supervising/mentoring staff (ensuring quality), ensuring safety of children and overall child care
    centre.
  • Assists Supervisor with ongoing documentation; filing (paper, computer), maintaining staff and
    children's files in a confidential manner.
  • Actively participates and attends activities as a member of the Club's team.


Qualifications:

Registered Early Childhood Educator
Experience working with children 18 mos to 4 yrs
Strong supervision and program planning skills
Good decision making and problem solving skills
Current First Aid and CPR
Police Reference Check
Food Handler Certification
