Food Service Supervisor

Report To

Food and Nutrition Manager

Qualifications

Successful completion of a recognized Food Service Supervisor Program

Current membership or eligible for membership in the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management (C.S.N.M.) and or Ontario Society of Nutritional Management (O.S.N.M.)

Technical Competencies

Working Knowledge of: Human Resources Management & Labour Relations, Planning, Financial Management and Budgeting Principles, Long Term Care Industry, Applicable Contractual & Legislative Requirements, CQI Principles, Inventory and Control Management, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English

Experience

1-2 years Food Service Supervisor/Dietary Manager experience in an institutionalized setting preferably long term care

Experience in managing within a unionized setting

Key Accountabilities

Examples

Environmental Management

  • Ensures that the department adheres to provincial, legislative and corporate standards e.g.: infection control procedures, WSIB/WCB

Financial Management

  • Maintains food and other departmental costs within budget.
  • Develops services to increase ancillary revenue such as catering
  • Participates in budget preparation
  • Institutes procedures to minimize waste.
  • Loss and theft prevention
  • Inventory management and control, including food and supply purchasing,
  • Computer data entry.

Quality improvement and risk management

  • Obtains feedback from customer and implements improvement strategies, survey's one on one interviews
  • Monitors and assess service delivery i.e. audits
  • Implements process improvement activities

Delivery of Service

  • Ensures the delivery of nutritional services using a customer service approach
  • Participates in IDTC
  • Participates in planning and delivery of special facility events

Human resources

  • Recruitment, selection, screening, hiring, performance management
  • Scheduling
  • Coaches, mentors and supervises departmental staff
  • Provides educational programs

  • Provide direction in accordance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Company policy to:
    • Workers,
    • Volunteers,
    • Contractors.
  • Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of the worker.
  • Carry out all assigned duties in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Company policy.
  • Participate in all required occupational health and safety training.
  • Report any known or identified health and safety hazards or violations to their supervisor.
  • Refrain from any conduct that puts themselves, workers, contractors or others at risk.
