The Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Woodland Wellness Centre is inviting applications for the following One Permanent Full-Time position(s) based out of the Prevention & Recovery Department in La Ronge, SK:
Child & Youth Therapist
The suitable candidate will be able to perform the following duties:
- Counseling survivors of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse; residential school survivors and their families
- Use knowledge of family violence treatment, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), trauma treatment and processing of negative emotions, sexual abuse assessments and therapeutic interventions
- Provide trauma-focused counseling and trauma recovery therapeutic services for children, youth and adults for sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, and/or witnessing violence.
- Provide trauma-focused counseling and trauma recovery therapy services for children, youth and adults with Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) relating to unresolved trauma.
- Ability to make appropriate assessments and treatment plans based on a holistic approach, evaluate treatment progress and outcomes, and make appropriate referrals as required.
- Facilitate support and therapy groups for children, youth, and non-offending caregivers.
- Evaluate the needs of the child and family and provide appropriate referrals and information.
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes and record of all client contacts.
- Provide accurate reports monthly.
- Work closely with other Multidisciplinary team members to provide support for children, youth, and families.
- Perform other duties within the scope of this position as assigned by the Program Coordinator
The suitable candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Preferably a master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related field or a
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience working in child and youth counselling services with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services
- Must be registered and in good standing with a licensed Professional Association.
- Experience working with First Nations people and communities.
- Extensive training and experience in Critical Incident Stress debriefing (CISD)
- Extensive training and experience in processing traumatic experiences
- Knowledge of various therapeutic and counselling modalities
- Experience in integrating traditional and contemporary counselling approaches.
- Knowledge of assessment and screening tools and modalities in determining risk and threat
- An understanding of rural and remote communities and their challenges and barriers.
