Are you a student with a passion for tourism and a knack for digital marketing? We have an exciting opportunity for you to contribute to the growth and innovation of the Yukon Tourism Industry as a Tourism Development Officer.

The Department of Tourism and Culture is offering a GradCorps opportunity for a Tourism Development Officer. This position involves providing advice and support to tourism businesses, organizations, and communities to foster tourism development, with a focus on digital strategies. You will collaborate closely with the Yukon tourism industry to conduct research, analyze data, and program workshops tailored to industry needs. Additionally, you will help organize and support key Department programs, such as the Rugged Apprentices program and the Go Digital Tourism Summit. This role is ideal for recent graduates eager to gain hands-on experience in destination development while contributing to core initiatives that drive tourism growth in Yukon.

This position will work for a one-year Term from approximately May 2025 to May 2026. The salary will be 80% of the starting salary - $65,006

Essential Qualifications
Please note selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume. If this opportunity interests you, please submit your resume clearly indicating your:

  • Post-secondary diploma in tourism, business administration, commerce, marketing, economic development, or related field;
  • Experience with research and report writing is an asset.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
Candidates should have and may be assessed on:

  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships and provide quality customer service
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including diplomacy;
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, situations and demands by establishing critical timelines and prioritizing actions;
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment;
  • Project management skills including; project planning, scheduling, and task management;
  • Technical writing skills including; email, client relations, and research;
  • Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
  • Understanding of social media and marketing would be an asset;
  • Understanding of the Yukon Tourism industry would be an asset

Additional Information

Conditions of Employment: Class 5 Yukon Drivers' License.

Job Requirements: Must be willing to travel throughout the Yukon.

NOTE: To qualify for the GradCorps program, you must:

• be a resident of Yukon or a person of Yukon First Nations ancestry*
• have graduated with a diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution within the past two years (2023, 2024 or 2025 grads - all requirements for graduation must be complete before internship start date)
• have little or no work experience in your field of study

*If you are a resident of Yukon who completed your studies outside of the territory, you may apply up to two years after graduation.
